SynthID Detector Opens to the Public

Google officially removes the waitlist for the SynthID Detector. The web portal at synthid.com becomes freely available worldwide (in English) for anyone with a Google, OpenAI, or Apple account. The launch imposes a strict quota of roughly 10 checks per day per user.

MAY 2026

OpenAI Adopts SynthID

OpenAI officially joins the SynthID ecosystem as a partner, meaning media generated by models like DALL-E 3 now carry the SynthID watermark alongside their existing C2PA metadata.

MAY 2025

Initial Beta Launch

Google announces the first iteration of the SynthID Detector. Access is strictly limited via a waitlist reserved for journalists, researchers, and media professionals to test the tool against political deepfakes.

AUGUST 2023

SynthID Unveiled

Google DeepMind publishes the original research introducing SynthID as a novel imperceptible watermarking technology for AI-generated images on Google Cloud's Vertex AI platform.
